A very beautiful and very wearable original 1920s beaded silk flapper dress is always a special thing to have on the site! You have to realize that these were completely hand done and to survive and be wearable now, some 100 odd years later is almost a miracle. I always feel a little honored to have these and think that yet another fabulous girl might swing them around the dance floor! This one has a black silk chiffon base that has a lovely art deco influenced swirled and panelled design using a combination of jet black and brilliant blue beads. The blue absolutely pops against the black and the other black beads act to add shimmer and texture! The top portion is heavily beaded and almost naughty with its implied blue design that covers each breast. An unusual strap would expose each shoulder but still give the illusion of a a "sleeve". I brilliant swirled design sits at the waist . The skirt gets a faux panel treatment with beading and it is scalloped along the edge. One side snaps till the waist and then each side of the skirt is left open so you can wear this tunic style over something else - perhaps a contrasting color? or just wear as a dress and top it over a basic black slip underdress. Amazing, wearable and of museum quality.
